Duncan’s 60th Birthday –

a trilogy of celebration!

Welcome to my 60th birthday website!

I look forward to seeing you at one (or more) of the venues to help celebrate my birthday!

There’s plenty going on around my birthday (2nd August), and I hope you can join me at the venue you’ve been invited to – I really am looking forward to welcoming you!

As always, please do not bring or send me a gift (a bottle or two of Château Pétrus being the exception!). Below are my current charities and I’d be grateful if you felt you could donate to one, or more, of them – thank you!

1

Melanie Hartshorn

I have been supporting Melanie since hearing of her plight a few years ago. She has always aspired to become a teacher, as my late mother always did, and I continue to support her through the vital surgeries she needs to sit up, return home, and to prevent further irreparable damage.

2

Zuri Girls

I was first introduced to Abaana some years ago and have since supported 3 children through school. Following from that I have supported their Zuri Girl project, where, as a man who brought up 3 girls, I felt particularly passionate to help combat the overwhelming challenges that girls face in Africa.

3

Smile Train

I think this is a very worthwhile cause and one I have supported for some time. Smile Train is the world’s largest cleft-focused organisation, with a sustainable and local model of supporting children to get access to surgery and other forms of essential, comprehensive care.

…and the following day, Sunday 6th August 2023, for a three hour picnic cruise on the River Thames on a privately chartered boat, the Hibernia, meeting for a 12 noon departure at the boatyard of Hobbs of Henley!

“Believe me my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”

That brings us to the final part of the celebratory trilogy, back to the North East for an informal private dining experience at the recently opened Ateesh in Ponteland. I have taken the private dining area of the upper floor for a birthday meal of Persian inspired cuisine.
